Batumi is the gateway to Adjara — a region where the Black Sea coast meets alpine meadows, ancient fortresses, and subtropical forests. The Boulevard and the old town are walkable, but everything beyond the city limits — Mtirala, Makhuntseti, Goderdzi Pass, the upper villages of Keda and Khulo — requires your own wheels.
StarCar delivers rental cars directly to Batumi Airport and to mountain resorts across Adjara, so your trip starts the moment you land.
Most car rental companies in Georgia either charge hidden fees, block large deposits on your card, or simply won't deliver outside the city center. Here's what makes StarCar different:
No Deposit — We don't block money on your card. The price you pay is the price you agreed on — nothing more.
Unlimited Mileage — Drive from Batumi to Goderdzi and back, then up to Tbilisi if you want. No daily kilometer caps, no overage charges.
Age 20+ — Most international brands require drivers to be 23 or 25. We accept licensed drivers from age 20, with no young driver surcharge.
Airport Pickup — Batumi (BUS) — Book at least 24 hours in advance and our operator meets you at the arrivals exit with your car ready. 10-minute contract, no queue.
Mountain Resort Delivery — Renting from Batumi but heading to Goderdzi, Beshumi, or other highland destinations? We can deliver the car directly to your resort. Arrange in advance via WhatsApp.
One-Way Rentals — Start in Batumi, drop off in Kutaisi or Tbilisi. No drop-off fee on the Batumi ↔ Kutaisi ↔ Tbilisi corridor.
24/7 WhatsApp Support — Our operator is always available. If you're stuck on a mountain road at midnight, you can reach us.
Seasonal Discounts — Spring and autumn rentals come with a 15% discount off peak-season rates. Winter — 20% off.
Adjara's landscapes vary dramatically — flat coastal roads one hour, rocky mountain passes the next. Choosing the right vehicle matters.
| Route | Terrain | Recommended Car |
|---|---|---|
| Batumi city, Kobuleti, Ureki | Paved, flat | Sedan / Hatchback |
| Mtirala National Park entrance | Paved + light gravel | Crossover |
| Makhuntseti, Green Lake, Keda | Mountain road, moderate | Crossover or SUV |
| Goderdzi Pass, Beshumi, Khulo | Steep, rough, unpredictable | SUV 4x4 (Toyota Prado) |
| Family group, 6–8 people | Any paved route | Minivan |
A note on "off-road": Our vehicles are covered for central roads and light gravel. For Goderdzi and similar passes, always contact our operator in advance — we'll confirm which car is right and what to expect on the route.
Planning a longer trip or travelling with family? We offer additional equipment on request:
Roof Box / Roof Rack — Extra luggage capacity for mountain trips, ski equipment, or large groups. Available on select SUV models. Request when booking.
Child & Baby Seats — We provide certified child seats for infants and toddlers. Specify the child's age when booking so we can prepare the correct seat size.
All extras must be arranged at least 24 hours before pickup via WhatsApp or the booking form.
Mtirala National Park — 40 minutes east of Batumi. One of the wettest spots in the Caucasus, with dense rainforest trails and waterfalls. A crossover is sufficient on the main road; ask about the access track to the ranger station.
Makhuntseti Waterfall & Queen Tamar Bridge — A classic Adjarian circuit through the Acharistsqali river valley. Paved road all the way, sedan or crossover is fine.
Goderdzi Pass (2,025m) — The high-altitude road connecting Adjara with Samtskhe-Javakheti. Spectacular in summer, closed or very difficult in winter. SUV required — Toyota Prado recommended.
Gonio Fortress — 15 minutes south of Batumi toward the Turkish border. One of the best-preserved Roman-era fortresses in the Caucasus. Easy paved road, any vehicle.
Batumi to Tbilisi One-Way — If your trip ends in Tbilisi, there's no need to return the car to Batumi. Drop it off at our Tbilisi location at no extra charge.
The cost of renting a car in Batumi depends on several factors. The key among them are typically the vehicle type and model, whether it’s high, shoulder, or low season, and how many days you’re booking the vehicle for. The most budget-friendly options typically start at $20-30 per day, with mid-range vehicles averaging around $40-60, and premium models, SUVs, and minivans costing anywhere from $60 to $100. There’s an option for every budget, really.
Additionally, most of the companies typically keep their prices dynamic - with the surge in demand during peak tourist season (June-September) the prices tend to be the highest, on the other side, shoulder and low seasons typically see decrease in pricing between 10-20%. Starcar uses a similar policy when offering their services, so if you’re planning to rent a car in Georgia, keep in mind that late Fall and winter might be the most lucrative seasons to explore the country.
First and foremost, familiarize yourself with Georgia’s traffic regulations before hiring a car in Batumi: the speed limit in urban areas is 60 km/h, while highways allow up to 110 km/h. While Georgia is full of known wine aficionados, there’s a zero-tolerance policy for drunk driving under 21 (with the legal blood alcohol limit at 0.0%), and a very strict policy for adults over 21 at 0.08% (i.e. if you drink the famed wine, call a taxi). Seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers. The country drives on the right side of the road. Your home country's license will likely be valid as long as there’s English translation (otherwise you may need to have it translated and notarized).
Depends on the company. Some companies may charge around 10-15% more than city locations because they may have higher operating costs and airport concession fees to pay. Others balance their prices so that any additional fees airport pickup may incur are distributed among all potential renters, so they display the same prices. Others prefer delivering to airports and may not have offices in all the cities they operate in.
Starcar is in the latter category - we maintain an office in Kutaisi, but deliver rentals to all three major airports operating in Georgia: Kutaisi, Tbilisi, and Batumi. So if you book a vehicle for your Batumi adventure with us, you’ll be able to pick it up at the airport on arrival, without having to take a detour to our office.
The optimal time to book a car rental in Batumi is 2-3 weeks before your vacation. It’s a sweet spot that balances availability and competitive pricing. Last-minute bookings during peak season (June-September) tend to be more expensive, and leave you with far fewer choices. On the other hand, extremely early bookings may cost you possible promotional offers. Especially if you’re set to arrive during off-peak months (October-April) - booking during summer may cost you 15-20% more than necessary.
Yes, there are no legislative restrictions on how long you can get a car rental in Batumi for - an entire year, if you’d so like. However, companies providing rental services aren’t legally obligated to provide long-term options if they don’t wish to, so not all of them may provide the option. Do your research prior to booking.
On the other hand, most companies not only offer long-term rentals, but often do so with substantial discounts (though what qualifies for a long-term rental is individual with each company). At Starcar, we consider any booking lasting over 14 days to be long-term. Contact us via WhatsApp to find out the exact terms regarding your specific schedules.
